Almost like a fable, that Alan Scott origin. It's sort of a flame that burns three times, to bring life, to bring death, to bring power. It feels religious, it feels inexplicable. And the Golden Age kind of did that a lot, from what I've read, from what I understand, these are things that sort of had to be out the door yesterday. You hear stories like whole issues being done over the weekend at an apartment with people peeling the tiles off the walls to mix the paints. And everybody at the time, like, comics had only just been kind of invented. Every time somebody did a thing for the first time, it was the first time. The first splash page was the first of those, the first kind of circular panel, the first weird storytelling trick. People were just coming up with stuff on the fly. So that's the kind of energy I think it's good to bring back in if you possibly can. -- Al Ewing

Hellraiser: Resurrections - The Onanistic Ritual

This second of five September-releasing Hellraiser one-shots isn't as good as the first. It's not bad, but in some places trhe art did require me to look a few times to realise exactly what was going on in-panel, and the story doesn't break any new ground.
Besides making everyone go to look up what 'onanistic' means, it does build on something mentioned in the first issue, which does make me wonder.

Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat among yourselves.
The intent of these posts is to chat and have some fun and, sure, vent a little as required. Reasoned debate is fine, as always, but if you have to ask if something is going over the line, think carefully before posting please.
Normal board rules about conduct and behaviour still apply, of course.
It's been suggested that, if discussing spoilers for recent media events, it might be advisable to consider using the rot13 method to prevent other members seeing spoilers in passing.
The world situation is the world situation. If you're following the news, you know it as much as I do, if you're not, then there are better sources than scans_daily. But please, no doomscrolling, for your own sake.
Well, SCOTUS has ruled to protect mail-in voting, so that's a plus.
A bunch of AI execs are now suddenly deciding that things should slow down on the AI development front, including one of the founders of Anthropic, and that a kill-switch would be a good idea. Of course a certain world leader has decried such concerns as a hoax and that all that is required is a strong and smart US leader. Sigh... well, I for one welcome our new AI overlords because if that's all that's stopping them, we are pretty much screwed.
In the UK, two crypto bros gave the Reform UK party £36 million pounds each, the two largest donations ever given to any party in UK history. Both claim that they want absolutely nothing in return..... riiiiight.
Those attending the 40th Anniversary screenings of "The Transformers: The Movie" on the 17th, we wish you well, and do stay on for the post-credits addition: The Awakening
